I just received yet another comment from a bug reported at 2001 asking for `support deletion of attachments‘ in evolution. It’s kind of interesting to see the demand to be fulfilledĀ for all most one decade.

Good news is you no longer need to ask for the feature. Thanks for Milan Crha, developer of RedHat, who help to get the my small plugin into Evolution code base.

So you don’t need to build the plugin by yourself or looking for a package. The feature should be available at Evolution 2.91.2+. šŸ™‚

News updated at 2010/10/31.

Even though I don’t use evolution daily basis, I still spent a few hours to work with the old plugin for the upcoming Evolution 2.30. In the latest version, Evolution plugin framework is now having a new EPluginUI forĀ GtkUIManager. The plugin version below to 0.0.3 does not work with Evolution 2.30, please use 0.0.4 if you upgraded your evolution to 2.30.

You can download source code tarball at github (http://github.com/chihchun/evolution-remove-attachments). I have also built debian packages for these platform,Ā if you want to test with binaries

  • For Ubuntu User
    • You can download and install package form my PPA forĀ Maverick (10.10).
  • For Debian User
    • You can download the tarball and deb file forĀ DebianĀ sid from here.

Since I no longer use Evolution, if you feel the piece of software is useful for you, please consider making a donation to support me maintaining the software.

The software is updated at 2010/10/05.

It’s nice to see that people still like to use the small piece of software which been wrote for 20 months without updated. Thanks for feedback from

  • Uwe, g021030 (at) gmx.net
  • Keith Refson, K.Refson (at) rl.ac.uk

And the others how left the messages on the blog, especially patch from Hank Hampel and encouragement from Dick Dunbar. šŸ˜‰

The new release is now handling in-line attachment as well, and it’s autotoolized and debianized.

You can download the tarball and deb file for Debian sid from

They are tested on Debian Sid with Evolution 2.22.

I use Evolution with Microsoft exchange server in office for 2 years. It’s a pretty good software which is integrated mail, addressbook and calendaring functionality, a groupware suite that all I need for office productivity.

However, when you use a email client for a long time, the e-mails will take more and more disk space. Especially, when you exchange many attachments with the other people. I have to keep the e-mails for record, but the attachments are all filed. I don’t want them to take my disk space anymore. I would like to save some space for really important project. It’s time to get rid of them. I need a plugin for remove these attachments.
